BLS Precourse Letter

Pre-course Letter to Participants

Welcome to the BLS for Healthcare Providers course.

Please use the BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual that you received at the time of registration, to help you prepare for the program and the written exam. Review before coming to class; you will learn more and will be more comfortable with the course.

To prepare for the BLS Course,

1. Read up the BLS Provider Student Manual

2. Pay attention to the following
  • Adult cardiac arrest algorithm (page 15)
  • BLS for Adults Review (page 31)
  • Steps for operating an AED (pages 35-37)
  • Paediatric cardiac arrest algorithm - single rescuer (page 46)
  • Paediatric cardiac arrest algorithm - two or more rescuers (page 53)
  • BLS for Infants and Children Review (pages 55-56)
  • Summary of High-Quality CPR (page 79)

3. Revise for the Skills Test using the
  • Adult CPR and AED Skills Testing Checklist (pages 80-81)
  • Infant CPR Skills Testing Checklist (pages 82-84)

To complete the course successfully, you will have to
  • Pass the BLS Written (MCQ) Exam by answering at least 21/25 questions correctly.
  • Pass the BLS Skills Test on Adult CPR with AED, and Infant CPR.

If you do not complete the course successfully, you might have to attend additional remedial sessions after the course at a later date(s).

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting. If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please tell one of the instructors when you arrive for the course. The instructor will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements.
